The paper in hand deals with the role of played by the Progressive Writers Association in the prepartition era of Indo-Pak Subcontinent. A breaking point came in the middle of 1930s with the appearance of the Indian Progressive Writers Association (PWA). It was mobilizing the writers of Indo-Pak Subcontinent and projecting the movement for independence by the use of pen. It was inspired by movements in Europe but was also inextricably linked to social and literary traditions that had already been developing in India. PWA was embarking on a project for cultural hegemony that was as much a literary, socio-cultural and to an extent political and political movement as well. The Association was not solely concerned with questions of literature but also with the specific role of writers who played their respective roles from the platform of Progressive Writers Association.
